About This Place

Ocean Trail is a distinctive seafood restaurant located within the vibrant Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. Specializing in authentic Louisiana Creole cuisine, Ocean Trail welcomes diners into a cozy yet lively setting that brings a true taste of the Gulf Coast right to the Arizona desert. The restaurant’s intimate dining space, with the option of sitting at the bar for an up-close view of chefs crafting each dish, creates a dynamic and engaging atmosphere where every meal becomes a sensory experience.

The menu is a celebration of bold, soulful flavors with standout dishes like the Louisiana Gumbo, teeming with tender seafood and rich, spicy broth; the indulgent Seafood Creole that offers a harmonious blend of fresh shrimp, crab, and oysters simmered in a perfectly seasoned tomato base; and the iconic Jambalaya and Red Beans and Rice that boast depth and heat, satisfying spice lovers at every turn. For appetizer lovers, the Oyster Shooters and Cajun Shrimp Boil deliver a fresh kick of flavor, while the Beer Steamed Clams and Steamed P.E.I. Mussels bring a subtle briny sweetness enhanced by garlic and herbs.

Signature drinks like the Ocean Trail Bloody Mary—a spicy, complex cocktail featuring Tito’s vodka and garnished with shrimp—are crafted with as much care as the food. The Ocean Trail Hurricane evokes tropical vibes with its rum blend and citrus notes, perfectly complementing the intricate flavors of the dishes.

Diners praise Ocean Trail for its unapologetically authentic Louisiana-style fare. Reviewer c j raved about the “amazing” Seafood Creole with its intense spice levels, while Eileen MacPherson recommended stopping by just for the desserts, especially the “giant delicious chocolate truffle” known as the Bourbon Chocolate Cake. Jenn U highlighted the freshness of the Crab Meat Cocktail and the richness of the smoked seafood chowder, showing just how thoughtfully Ocean Trail balances freshness and tradition in every bite.

Though the restaurant sits inside a bustling casino, which may not appeal to every guest, many find the energetic ambiance adds a unique charm. As Canh Tran observed, “The best seat in the house is at the bar right in front of the chef,” making for an engaging and visually appetizing dining event. A few reviewers mention the challenge of the first-come, first-served seating, but agree that the food’s exceptional quality more than makes up for any wait.

From the warm, complimentary bread to the hearty servings of Succulent Shrimp Cocktail and vibrant sides like Steamed Collard Greens with Ham Hock and Bacon, Ocean Trail promises a rich culinary journey. It’s an ideal spot for seafood aficionados craving the deep, spicy, and comforting tastes of Louisiana without leaving the Valley of the Sun.

I wanted Creole food on AZ, and this place came up. I gave ot a 4 star because it is located inside a casino (I didn't know that until i arrived), so of that is your thing you may like it even more. I ordered the seafood creole, and it was amazing! Plenty of seafood, spice level 1-10...I had "5" and I am a spicy eater, but I could have had a 3 or 4. It was still very good. Shout out to Josh the waiter. You were great. Please tell them I need cornbread next time I come, lol

If nothing else, it is worth stopping by for dessert! They serve a chocolate caramel creation that can only be described as a giant delicious chocolate truffle filled with gooey delicious caramel! The appetizers are pretty good too! Try the Oyster shooter and the shrimp cocktail served with Colossal Shrimp! The dinner food was very good. It is definitely Louisiana style! The Crab Gumbo was overflowing with tasty crab meat! The staff are friendly enough, but maybe a little distracted. It was hard to get their attention. The atmosphere was so-so only because of the casino and it feels like a food court. But, definitely not "food court" food!

Technically a 4.5 stars. Post Valentines Day dinner. We typically drive to Vegas for a pan roast and found this place. The -1/2 star is for the pan roast, I think it’s tastier and richer with a lobster bisque base rather than a tomato base. We also tried a few appetizers that were delicious and hit the spot! The crab meat cocktail was fresh and the creamy sauce was delicious! The smoked seafood cheddar dip was amazing!!! Our server was attentive and courteous. We had a great first time experience. We will definitely return. (Chef: offer a lobster bisque base option for the pan roast please ;) )

This is a small dining area inside a casino. The best seat in the house is at the bar right in front of the chef. A lot of seafood varieties. Interestingly seafood creole, gumbo, étouffe can be found in middle of Arizona dessert. Service is friendly and food is flavorful. Get it level 5 spicy.

We have been here a few times and it never disappoints. The only issues are with the location and not the food. It is first come first served and there are no reservations. So you never know what your wait time is going to look it. It's also right off the casino floor and next to Palo Verde Lounge, so it can get fairly loud. That aside the food is very good. We love everything here and it's always fresh preparation and made to order. You can't go wrong. We love the gumbo and the pan bake. I highly recommend you make the trip.

I had the pan roast combo and key lime pie. All very good. I am not for too spicy and they had zero extra in mine and I really liked it. Key lime pie was pretty good too. Would go again

Update 2/7/24 Ocean Trail is a hidden gem nestled within the bustling, illuminated heart of Talking Stick Casino. As I entered the restaurant on a lively Friday night, the symphony of slot machines and excited chatter created an initial impression, which was both intriguing and overwhelming. The ambiance, as one might expect in such a location, was less about serene dining and more a reflection of the casino's high-energy environment. The vibrant noise and the live band playing nearby are upfront realities for anyone considering a culinary venture here. At first glance, the décor struck me as perhaps incongruous with the rich Cajun flavors promised on the menu. The walls adorned with glass tiles hint at an aquatic theme, it felt as if it were previously a seafood restaurant repurposed as a cajun place. It's a functional space where the focus is clearly meant to be on the food rather than the surroundings. The unassuming environment belies the kitchen's impressive dedication to quality and freshness. As I watched, each oyster was meticulously inspected, with the chef himself conducting a personal 'sniff test' just after shucking. This commitment to freshness extends to the entire menu, instilling confidence that each dish is crafted from the peak of the produce and proteins available. For my main course, I selected the Shrimp Gumbo. Ordering at a spice level of 6, I was eager to see how this Cajun staple would translate at Ocean Trail. The gumbo did not disappoint: it delivered a robust complexity that danced across my palate, the spices harmoniously blending into a symphony of taste that felt both authentic and expertly executed. There were, however, fleeting moments when the shrimp, though perfectly fresh, were ever so slightly overcooked -- we're talking like 60 seconds. This minor hiccup was swiftly forgiven, however, as the dish's overall composition more than compensated. As any Cajun aficionado will tell you, a little perspiration is a testament to the dish's integrity, and my experience was authenticated by the extra napkins thoughtfully provided by our attentive waiter. Ocean Trail’s service is brisk but warm, reflective of its efficient operation on a small floor space that seats roughly 30 patrons. With no reservations accepted, you should be prepared for a short wait. Despite the brisk pace, the staff ensured our needs were met promptly, reinforcing a sense of team cohesion and professionalism that complements the kitchen’s artistry. In terms of value, the pricing is as accessible as it is commendable, serving undeniably high-quality cuisine that stands as the best I’ve encountered in the valley—a sentiment echoed by long-standing patrons and newcomers alike. Ocean Trail is an endearing contradiction: a vibrant and electric atmosphere paired with food that pays homage to the subtle intricacies of Cajun nuances. It's an experience that thrives on freshness, creativity, and flavor, adeptly overcoming the auditory chaos of its casino setting. While the décor and ambiance offer room for improvement, the remarkable service and exceptional food quality make Ocean Trail a noteworthy destination for any Cajun food enthusiast braving the casino's lively tide. Overall, I rate Ocean Trail a deserved 4 out of 5, mainly driven by their exceptional food quality, menu, and service despite the energetic atmosphere that some may find challenging. Original Review I hadn't realized that the menu was very heavily Cajun, which I love, and haven't found many good Cajun restaurants outside of New Orleans. Ocean trail did not disappoint. Portions were generous, everything was properly cooked and very well flavored. Went with my friend Kasey last night. I had the creole and he had the shrimp boil. The flavor on both were perfect. Kasey was afraid that it would be an oily mess, instead, the broth was rich, lemony, no oily feel whatsoever. The creole was loaded with shrimp, scallops, clams and all perfectly cooked.
